                        ( YEAR IN REVIEW )

           The year in review 2010 / 2011

What a year! It’s so hard to know where to start, A, B and schoolboys/girls all had terrific seasons.

A truly memorable year for us, let’s go back to last Summer which saw the over 40’s held in Pike Rovers- a beautiful sunny and most enjoyable weekend was had by all. After the over 40’s we started what was to be the biggest project in the club in the last decade – the building of are new dressing rooms (which consisted of the showers area, refs room and gym area along with the four dressing rooms) .We officially opened our dressing rooms with the help of fai John Delaney, Mayor of Limerick Maria Byrne and our late president Mr Ger Frawley on the 20thFebruary 2011 at 4.30 .We were also really delighted to accept John Delaney invitation to the Aviva stadium for the Ireland v Macedonia game. It was an honour for us to accept the invitation. Just last Monday 20th June we were given the greatest honour when we were invited to the mayor civic reception for Pike Rovers. It was a testament to the club that we would be given this reception and our thanks our extended to Mayor Cllr Maria Byrne for this honour.Throughout the year we also saw Special Olympics and Bawnmore using the facilities within Pike Rovers - we are always so honoured to welcome the athletes to the club .

The season started in flying form with our A, B and numerous underage teams competing in a wide range of competitions. It was a tough season for the A team playing over 50 matches. Our A team where hugely successful in winning the Lawson Cup, The Tuohy Cup, the premier league and the FAI Junior Cup. This was Pike Rovers fourth league win in a row. it is testament to our A team that they have only lost one domestic trophy in the last 3 years – the Lawson Cup to Ballananty in 2010 .The Lawson Cup final this year was played in honour of Ger Frawley our honorary president who died just before the match . Where their is highs their is lows. Pike where beaten 5-1 by St Michaels FC on the 9th April in Jackman Park Limerick in the Munster Junior Cup semi final, a great victory for St Michaels who we then beat in the FAI junior cup final. As most of you know we were also in the FAI Senior Cup and we were very unlucky to lose to Sligo Rovers 3-2 away. A great season was had by the players, coaches and supporters of Pike and our thanks to Declan Considine, Adrian Lipper, Colm Lipper, Eddie Donovan and Paul Dillon. We also extend our thanks to Declan Casey for his work throughout the seasons.

The B team were also hugely successful, securing promotion to 1A under the guidance of Darren Hanrahan, Mark Nunan and Darren Duffy.

The schoolboys/girls really made us all so proud this season – the 14’s and 15’s won their respective leagues , all other teams performed really well and there was numerous blitz played throughout the year that they all performed exceptionally well at .

Plans for the coming year :
Firstly the club plan to hold the FAI victory dance before the start of the season . part 2 of our refurbishment and development project is the Astroturf , we hope to have this started within the next 12 months. As part of this we also plan on turning the training pitch into a third pitch to further enhance the facilities .

End of season also saw some very sad news, Our honorary life president Ger Frawley sadly died. Ger death is a huge loss to our club. Ger was a stalwart of the club and true gentleman will be hugely missed. On the 22nd May, Ger travelled with us to Turners Cross to see us win the FAI Junior Cup. It was an exceptionally proud day for Ger and the club. Ger wife Nancy died not long ago and we remember Nancy at this time aswell , Nancy and Ger first love was the schoolboys/girls playing with our club , they had great passion for the development of schoolboy/girl soccer and indeed it was testament to Ger and Nancy that some of the present squads and committee played under the guidance of them both .  It was remarked time and again of Ger calming nature , in particular this was evident in the dressing room just before the FAI final , Ger spoke so passionately about previous FAI matches  and was there to wish the team luck in the final . One thing that we can guarantee is that Ger and Nancy are in heaven celebrating this FAI .
